New BIGGA Chairman for 2001

8.00am 31st January 2001 - People

Clive Osgood, Course Manager at Walton Heath Golf Club in Surrey, has been elected Chairman of the British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association for the year 2001. He succeeds Elliott Small who completed his term at the Association’s AGM.

Clive is a well-known figure in golfing and greenkeeping circles having been course manager at Walton Heath since 1980. He has prepared the Old Course for a number of top professional tournaments, including European Opens, and the 1981 Ryder Cup Matches which featured what is widely regarded as the best Ryder Cup team ever – the American side captained by Dave Marr.

“Becoming BIGGA Chairman is a huge honour for me and I am grateful to my family and to Walton Heath Golf Club for enabling me to take on the role. Without their support, taking it on would have been impossible,” said Clive.

During his year in office Clive is keen to add to the current 7,150 membership of BIGGA and to pool their collective knowledge to the benefit of all through increased use of the Association’s website.

Clive’s first task was to select his Vice-Chairman and he has chosen Richard Barker, course manager at Kirby Muxloe Golf Club in Leicestershire and an experienced member of the Association’s Board of Management.
