Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf & Spa, which already boasts two 18-hole golf courses and one 9-hole golf course plus an indoor golf academy, will be host to the two year full time programme for young professionals.

Aimed at young golfers aged 16 and over, the Lee Westwood Golf School will follow a unique structured programme, which will develop and enhance the student’s golf, education, lifestyle, psychology and fitness and result in a BTEC National Diploma in Sport. The programme is the only BTEC course in the UK to be accredited by a professional sports personality, and as such provides unrivalled access to experienced coaches and insider knowledge.

Lee Westwood comments: “The Golf School is designed to offer young golfers the opportunity to follow their dreams – whether as a PGA playing professional, teaching professional or continuing into higher education. As such, the programme offers world class facilities, coaching and training methods, which is why I am so pleased to be working with the Macdonald Portal Hotel. Their facilities are some of the best in the region and have already established them as a world class championship golf venue. I am looking forward to beginning the school and to developing students using the great resources that the hotel is renowned for.”

Mark Lyttleton-Frances, Regional General Manager at Macdonald Hotels adds: “We are delighted that Lee Westwood has chosen Macdonald Portal for his inaugural Golf School. The stunning Cheshire property not only boasts some exceptional golf facilities, but is set in beautiful English countryside alongside an award winning hotel. We all look forward to supporting Lee and wish him, and the school’s students, all the best during their training programme”.

The programme is supported and endorsed by the English Golf Union (EGU) and the Golf Foundation and will be headed by Karl Morris, who founded a similar successful programme in Northern Ireland.

Following an initial open day in March, in which 60 prospective students attended and 10 signed up, the Cheshire based hotel opened its facilities again on Saturday 17 April which was also a huge success.
