Loch Lomond lands major international award

8.17am 7th February 2008 - People

Loch Lomond Golf Club recently came out top in a magazine poll to find the 100 Best Golf Shops in the World.

The exclusive Scottish club beat off strong competition from Bandon Dunes, Bay Hill Golf and Lodge, Castle Pines, Desert Mountain, East Lake, Medinah, Pinehurst, the TPC of Sawgrass, Whistling Straits, Winged Foot and many other leading golf clubs to claim top marks in a poll conducted by Golf World, America’s No. 1 weekly golf magazine. Loch Lomond was the only British golf club to have its shop included in the annual list.

“We heard a while ago that we had won a place on the Golf World 100 Best Golf Shops list but it wasn’t until just before we travelled to the recent PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando that we learned we had also won a special award for gaining the top score in the whole competition,” said John Caven, golf operations director at Loch Lomond Golf Club and Dundonald Links.

“It is a tremendous achievement and a huge tribute to all the hard work put in by Elaine Green, the retail manager at Loch Lomond, and all the staff who work in the shop.”

Golf World’s 100 Best Golf Shop Award is open to private, public, resort and off-course facilities. Each shop is rated on three separate criteria:
1. revenue per square foot/per round;
2. shop appearance/lay-out; and
3. articulation of successful promotions, recent initiatives and the handling of a major challenge faced during the previous year.
