La Cala, Spain’s largest golf resort, has appointed seasoned golf travel expert Edouard des Fontaines as its new sales and marketing director in a bid to cement the resort’s position as Europe’s leading golf-holiday destination.
The appointment of des Fontaines (pictured right), who joined the resort earlier this month after more than a decade shaping new business development at Golfbreaks.com, comes at a time of ambitious development for La Cala. Under the Irish-ownership of FBD Hotels & Resorts, the 54-hole complex recently celebrated its 30th anniversary with a series of improvement works. These included the switch to Bermuda greens on its oldest ‘Asia’ course, the launch of a new fleet of cutting-edge GPS buggies, and the remodelling of several holes.
Sean Corte-Real, La Cala’s general manager (pictured left), said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Edouard to La Cala. At a time of such ambitious development it was extremely important we found someone with the drive and expertise to take the helm of La Cala’s sales and marketing team.”
Des Fontaines has over 15 years’ experience in the golf travel industry and most recently was head of product worldwide at Golfbreaks.com, selling and managing over 20 international destinations. During his tenure at Golfbreaks.com, he also enjoyed spells as head of business development, head of product Europe, as well as being the product manager for both Spain and Portugal.
