John Letters of Scotland, the equipment brand with 92 years of clubmaking history, is delighted to announce the appointment of Douglas McCaig as their new agent for Scotland.

The son-in-law of the late John Letters, McCaig was the perfect choice to help John Letters of Scotland Limited re-establish the brand north of the border.

Having worked in the golf industry for over 30 years and previously under his late Father-in-law, there are few with more of an understanding of the Scottish golf market and John Letters Golf equipment, than McCaig.

Commenting on his appointment, Douglas said: “I’m delighted to be working with John etters in Scotland again. With the family connection, it is a brand very close to my heart and hopefully with my help will achieve the success it deserves in Scotland.”

The appointment follows new investment into John Letters of Scotland Limited earlier in the year, the re-signing of Ryder Cup legend Sam Torrance and re-launch of the brand at The Open at St Andrews. With a renewed enthusiasm to extend the brands appeal, UK Golf Distribution, a specialist golf distribution company headed by industry stalwart Mike Smith, has been tasked with growing the brand globally and in particular, in Scotland.

Mike Smith, General Manager of UK Golf Distribution, commented: “We are excited to bringing one of Scotland’s fondest and most famous golf brands back home. With a new comprehensive product range for 2010 combining the very latest technologies with Letters’ fine craftsmanship tradition and now with Douglas on-board, we have no doubt this will help us re-engage with our many fans in Scotland.”

Speaking after re-signing with Letters, nearly 40 years after signing his first professional contract with John Letters of Scotland in 1971, Sam Torrance added: “I personally want to see Letters back on the shelves of the best golf shops in Scotland in the next few years and sincerely hope my association will once again help drive consumer demand for this famous old name with its birthplace on the banks of the Clyde.”

Established in Scotland in 1918 and renowned globally for producing golf equipment of the highest quality, John Letters has launched an innovative range of equipment for 2010 in the T9+ and T8 with other exciting launches planned in 2011.
