Premium Japanese equipment company Honma Golf has appointed a new sales manager to represent the brand across the Midlands and northern England.

Honma’s latest sales managerial recruit Martin Barnes

Martin Barnes, a former American Golf store manager and golf professional with more than 30 years’ industry experience, has joined the expanding Honma team in the UK to handle existing and selected new accounts from his home in Manchester.

Following four years as a golf professional, Barnes has spent the last 25 years running multiple golf retail branches across the north of England. He was American Golf’s Store Manager of the Year in 2017, when he achieved 137% of sales targets.

“I am delighted to have joined the sales team of such a premium brand,” said Barnes. “Having achieved a lot during my time in retail, I can now use my knowledge to help grow Honma’s business even more.”

Barnes’s appointment follows the recent addition of David Stone to the role of sales manager covering southern England and the Irish Republic, as well as David Strachan, the brand’s representative in Scotland and Northern Ireland. All three will be supported by UK club fitting specialist Luke Peterken.

Alejandro Sanchez, general manager of Honma Golf Europe, commented: “The appointment of Martin Barnes comes at a time when the Honma brand is making waves in the marketplace with its new TWorld 747range, as well the customised Beresseries clubs. Martin has significant experience in the industry, and he’s a great addition to the formidable sales team we have representing our brand in Europe’s biggest golf market.”
