The Asian Golf Industry Federation [AGIF] has welcomed representatives from Golf Facility Members onto its Board of Directors.

During the Federation’s Annual General Meeting in Shanghai, the nominations of Steven Thielke, General Manager at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, and Wee Peng Siong, General Manager at Indonesia’s Riverside Golf Club, were unanimously approved.

Tim Trinka, who was re-elected President for a further term, said: “We are delighted to welcome Steven and Peng Siong to the Board.

“Given the increased focus of the AGIF on education and the recent tie-up with the Club Managers Association of America, it makes perfect sense to have two of the most respected golf club General Managers in the region take their places on the Board.

“Their knowledge and input will be invaluable as the AGIF strives to grow and develop.”

Since the introduction of the Golf Facility Member category 18 months ago, dozens of the region’s most prominent clubs have signed up as members.

“Golf facilities represent an enormous part of our industry and as we continue to run an increasing number of educational events for course superintendents and club managers, and offer more benefits to clubs, we are confident that this category of membership will grow,” said Trinka.

Currently the AGIF has Golf Facility members in 11 countries or regions – Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Paul Burley, Vice President of IMG Golf Course Services, has assumed the position of Vice President of the AGIF. Also joining the AGIF Board is Rudy Anderson, Executive Vice President of Global Development at Pacific Links International.
