Following the inaugural PowerPlay Golf event at The Celtic Manor Resort at the end of May, 21 year-old German tour professional, Maximilian Kieffer has generously donated £10,000 of his prize money to the German Golf Federation (Deutsche Golf Verband) as a mark of his appreciation for the guidance and support he received throughout an impressive amateur career.
Currently regarded as one of the most exciting young talents in the professional game, Maximilian’s donation to German golf’s governing body follows similar gestures made by World Number 15, Paul Casey, young French star Victor Dubuisson and Swedish sensation, Caroline Hedwall, who was the PowerPlay Golf driven by Saab: Ignition overall champion. Collectively the four players donated a total £93,000 for their Federations.
During the annual R&A vs European Golf Association golf event atSt Andrews, PowerPlay Golf’s Executive Director, Peter McEvoy OBE met with Marion Thannhaeuser, Vice President of the German Golf Federation alongside the Home Of Golf’s 18th green to present a cheque on Maximilian’s behalf.
“Maximilian has always been held in high regard by everyone within our organisation and we have enjoyed watching him mature over the years into the fine young golfer that he is now. This substantial donation is not only greatly appreciated, but also shows what a fantastic ambassador he is for young golfers throughoutGermany,” commented Marion Thannhaeuser, Vice President of the German Golf Federation.
Buoyed by the continued support from Federation’s around the globe for the innovative 2-flag nine-hole format, Peter McEvoy said; “It has always our dream to create an exciting format of golf that is tailored to the modern generation and entices new people into the game of golf. With the support of organisations like the Deutsche Golf Verband I firmly believe that golfers will engage with this unique format and the game will continue to flourish inGermany.”
More live made-for-television events again featuring PGA, European Tour and LPGA Tour stars, are to be aired over the next 18 months. The format’s growing visibility and unique risk-reward format continues to attract interest in clubs and courses that wish to become a PowerPlay Golf Official Venue. Each venue is listed on the PPG website and has marketing rights, with PPG representatives available for assistance and guidance. Venues can use PPG to grow incremental green fee income by extending the tee sheet and offering 9-hole golf later in the day, and the format offers a new avenue for social, charitable and corporate golf business.
