Faldo signs with CBS television

12.10am 5th October 2006 - People

Nick Faldo has accepted a job with American television network CBS and will become the network’s lead golf analyst, replacing former US PGA Tour regular Lanny Wadkins. CBS has signed a six-year contract with the US PGA Tour and will broadcast 21 events from 2007.
“I view this as a fabulous opportunity for me, which may come once every 10 years,” said Faldo. “But it will seriously curtail my playing career. My playing days aren‘t completely over but my priority now is given to CBS.”
Faldo’s decision means he will miss next year’s Masters, an event he has won three times. His other three major wins came in The Open.
While some have interpreted this development as Faldo taking a major step towards retirement, there is no sign that he intends to cut back on his golf course design business, which currently has no less than 18 projects worldwide. “We expect that Nick will be spending at least as much time on course design work as on his television commitments,” said a spokesman for Faldo Design. “He enjoys doing both and, if anything, the television exposure makes him in even greater demand as a golf course designer.”
