The 2007 Faldo Series grand final is to be held at the Celtic Manor Resort on 9th – 11th October and this year is set to be the biggest ever.
With a field containing winners from over 30 Faldo Series events in the UK and Europe during 2007, plus three champions from the 2006 Faldo Series Asia (two from Taiwan and one from Malaysia), the Faldo Series grand final will be played on Celtic Manor’s Roman Road course, host to the European Tour’s Wales Open. Six age-category winners will be invited to China in December for the 2007 Faldo Series Asia grand final at Mission Hills.
The Faldo Series grand final will also play host to 24 players (aged 12 and under) from this year’s Faldo Mini Series, who have been chosen at random from registered short course events throughout the UK. Run in conjunction with the Golf Foundation and now in its second year, the Faldo Mini Series winners will attend a short-course clinic with the six-time Major winner, followed by a Q&A.
Nick Faldo commented, “Last year when the winners of the Faldo Mini Series came down to meet me at the Faldo Series grand final, I was struck by the maturity and insight that their questions displayed. These are potential golf stars of the future and I hope that I can help them to really get to grips with the game and perhaps offer them some insight of my own. I would be delighted to see any of them stepping out onto the fairways at a Faldo Series event in the future.”
Mike Round, chief executive of the Golf Foundation, said, “The future of golf is all about getting youngsters excited about the sport and giving them the chance to play. The Faldo Mini Series fulfils these two aims admirably. There is a growing list of short course competitions under the Mini Series banner and the presence of Nick Faldo on the day will create a fantastic occasion for the youngsters. Last year, Nick gave an inspirational talk to the boys and girls and we’re really looking forward to his clinic this time.”
Underwritten by Faldo, the Faldo Series is part of The Faldo Trust for Tomorrow’s Champions (charity number 1102719) and supported by the PGA, The R&A and the European Tour.
