What’s being described as the lost memoir of Ely Callaway, the founder of the eponymous golf equipment company who died in 2001, is to be published next month.

The book, entitled ‘The Unconquerable Game: Ely Callaway on the Game of Golf, Business, and Life’, has been brought together by Callaway’s son, Nicholas, in collaboration with writer and editor Andrew Moorhead, who between them collated hundreds of pages of manuscripts and interviews into a 362-page first person memoir that explores Callaway’s life and work.

Starting out life working in the textile industry, before moving into wine production, it wasn’t until Callaway was in his early 60s that he launched into the golf equipment business, setting up Callaway Golf from his garage in Palm Desert, California in 1982.

His revolutionary Big Bertha driver, first introduced in 1991, transformed golf by making the game more accessible and enjoyable for players of all levels. Under his leadership, Callaway Golf became the world’s largest golf equipment manufacturer and the first to go public on the New York Stock Exchange.

“We are honored to share Ely’s amazing life story with the world,” said Nicholas Callaway, who began researching his father’s life story in the 1990s. “His story is not just a chronicle of remarkable achievements, but a testament to the power of resilience, innovation, and integrity. Ely had an uncanny ability to see ahead and the insights he has to share with us are profound and resonant right now.”

As well as being produced in print, The Unconquerable Game is also being released as an AI-enhanced audiobook, posthumously narrated in Ely Callaway’s own voice. This innovative process was made possible through a collaboration between AI voice engineers, linguistics experts and voice actors to authentically recreate Ely’s distinct Georgia accent.

The Unconquerable Game: Ely Callaway on the Game of Golf, Business, and Life’ goes on sale on March 25, priced at $40 in the US and £35 in the UK and is now available for pre-order on Amazon.
