Ombria Resort, the luxury sustainable golf development in the Algarve which is due to open this spring, has appointed Salvador Costa Macedo as its new Director of Golf.

One of Salvador’s key priorities is to ensure that the new golf course is in top condition and meets players’ expectations when it opens in April – a task that should be no problem for the new Director of Golf whose résumé includes 20 years’ experience working at leading golf resorts in Portugal.

Salvador holds a degree in Business Management from the Universidade Lusiada with postgraduate degrees in Golf Course Management from the University of Algarve, and a specialisation in Hospitality Management from the Association of Directors of Hospitality in Portugal.

His knowledge has given him the opportunity to work for high-profile companies such as the Portuguese Federation of Golf, the National Training Center of Jamor, Quinta do Peru Golf & Country Club and Penina Hotel & Golf Resort. Most recently, Salvador was Sales Golf Manager at Palmares Ocean Living & Golf and Amendoeira Golf Resort in the Algarve.

He commented: “My career has allowed me to work on some of the Algarve’s most prestigious golf courses but Ombria Resort will take the golf offering in the Algarve to a new and exciting level. I am delighted to join the team and contribute to making this golf course a new regional highlight for golfers of all handicaps.”

Located in the inland Algarve, 7km north of Loulé and 25 minutes from Faro airport, the 18-hole golf course at Ombria has been designed by Jorge Santana da Silva and built according to the highest practices of environmental sustainability. This allowed the course to be officially certified by the GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf.

To complement the new course, there will be a new clubhouse, who facilities will include a bar and restaurant, golf shop, heated swimming pool, sauna and gym. A 5-star hotel – the Viceroy at Ombria Resort – is under construction, with its 71 apartments, 70 rooms, 5 restaurants, swimming pools, conference centre, spa and kids’ club, which will be managed by Viceroy Hotels & Resorts.

Owned by the Finnish Pontos Group, Ombria Resort is a new residential development offering different types of homes for sale, including apartments, townhouses and villas, for investors looking for a permanent residence or a second home.
