With the winter weather gripping the UK, Derby College students who are members of the Performance Golf Academy Derby education and player training programme are currently preparing to go overseas for warm weather training.
The students will leave for Roda Golf & Beach Resort San Javier, Murcia in Spain in early February to undertake a rigorous training & competitive programme, including daily Physical and Mental preparation, technical work on long game, short game and putting.
The students will also compete in a 72 hole stroke play event over the highly acclaimed par 72 Dave Thomas designed championship golf course. Joining them in the tournament will be 4 Playing/Touring professionals which will present the students with some tough competition and valuable experience of playing with high performance players.
Performance Golf Academy programme director Nigel Furniss explained; “We have built warm weather training into the Performance Golf Academy Derby programme to present our players with an opportunity to develop their skills at a quality venue whilst conditions here in the UK are preventative. Our past experience has shown how valuable this can be for players, giving them a distinct advantage in preparing for the season ahead.”
“The players will find the schedule challenging, up at 6.45 each day for ‘Fitness Club’, with each day concluding with ‘Review of the Day’ at 7.00 pm.”
James Whatley, technical coach on the Performance Golf Academy Derby programme commented: “We have chosen Roda Golf & Beach Resort which is a PGA Academy venue for its excellent facilities. I know the students are really looking forward to taking advantage of this opportunity and working hard on their training during the week.”
