Alex Belt’s phenomenal season was capped off in style as he claimed the PGA North Order of Merit and earned the opportunity to win a place at BMW PGA Championship next season.
Belt, who has long been supported by De Vere Golf, and takes advantage of the leading facilities across the portfolio of UK resorts, has been in scintillating form throughout the year.
The 28 year-old, who balances his time across the EuroPro Tour as well national PGA events, has won four PGA tournaments this season, including two of the most high profile events on the PGA calendar.
His first win of the year came at the De Vere PGA North Region Championship at Herons’ Reach in May, where a strong display saw him stay clear of a high quality chasing pack to take the title. Belt then added another trophy to his cabinet at the endof August with a stunning final round of 66 to claim the PGA North Manchester Open.
That brace of wins, alongside two further titles and five top ten finishes, including a second place at his local De Vere resort, Oulton Hall, gave Belt a slim lead on the Order of Merit heading into the final event of the PGA series, the James Brearley Lancashire Open. Whilst not quite being able to take another title, his 2nd place finish was good enough to seal the Order of Merit title.
With this end of season triumph, Belt has qualified forthe PGA playoffs staged in Antalya, Turkey, from November 29th to December 1st,where he will join the top players from every region to compete for one of ten places in the European Tour’s flagship event.
