A veteran of four previous Ashworth Cup teams, Darren Parris, will this year have the honour of captaining and taking his Foremost Team to The Belfry in late August in a bid to win the cup for a second consecutive year.
Parris claimed both of the two points in his matches last time out at Gleneagles in 2014, helping the Foremost side to a resounding 12-6 victory.
Speaking on the news of his appointment as Foremost captain, Darren made a point of highlighting the importance the three Foremost Regional Championships will play in shaping his team.
“Naturally I’m delighted to have been asked to honour the role of Team Captain for Foremost in 2015. I have some great memories from previous outings in this competition and look forward to adding another this time round,” commented Parris.
“The three Regional Championships will play a big part in how the team shapes up, so if we can get as many players as possible taking part, this will only help to strengthen the depth of the team we take to The Belfry, and I’m already starting to put my game plan together” he continued.
Parris’ selection as Captain by the Foremost Golf panel is sure to be a popular choice with members qualifying for the team who will benefit from his vast Ashworth Cup experience.
Foremost Company Director Andy Martin commented, “There were so many outstanding candidates for the captaincy, but Darren’s credentials not only signalled him as a great Foremost ambassador, but he also has the unparallel experience of having played in four of the previous five competitions. Darren has also represented GB&I in the PGA Cup in 2005 and was our Foremost Champion in 2011.”
Six places in Darren’s 2015 Ashworth Cup team are up for grabs at the forthcoming Foremost Regional Championships, with the top two finishers at each of the three regional events qualifying.
