Anna Darnell is set to leave her role as general manager of The Grove in Hertfordshire after 21 years with the business to take up a new role as general manager of Emirates Golf Club in Dubai.
Darnell first joined The Grove as corporate golf co-ordinator in 2005 and quickly climbed the ranks of the business, becoming Head Professional in 2007, Golf Operations Manager is 2008, Director of Golf in 2011, Director of Golf & Experiences in 2016, and Resort Director in 2022, before being promoted to General Manager in 2025.
In this role, Darnell assumed responsibility for overarching business strategy, operational direction and revenue across the Hertfordshire resort’s 300 acres.
In addition to leading housekeeping, golf, spa, leisure and revenue, she also oversaw front of house, security and maintenance, bringing all guest-facing departments under one leadership.
Prior to her time at The Grove, Darnell graduated from a PGA Foundation degree in 2002, after which she joined Loch Lomond Golf Club as an assistant professional, before spending two years as an assistant at the Royal Golf Club in Bahrain. She returned to the UK in 2004, joining Hanbury Manor as a tournament co-ordinator.
Emirates Golf Club announced Darnell’s appointment on LinkedIn, writing: “As one of the region’s most iconic golf destinations, Emirates Golf Club is entering an exciting new chapter, and we’re delighted to welcome Anna Darnell to the team. We look forward to the leadership, expertise and passion she will bring to our members, guests and colleagues.
The statement continued: “Anna brings more than 20 years of experience across luxury hospitality, golf and leisure. Beginning her career as a PGA Professional, she has held leadership roles across both the UK and the Middle East, with a passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences, developing high-performing teams, and driving operational excellence.
Darnell commented in response to the post saying that she “can’t wait” to join the team and that there were “exciting times ahead.”
