CONGU appoints new Secretary

The Council Of National Golf Unions (CONGU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Kevin McIntyre as Secretary to the Council with effect from 1st April 2002. He succeeds Mr Alan Thirlwell who has retired after 23 years.

Kevin McIntyre is a retired banker with Bank of Ireland and has a wealth of experience in the administration of amateur golf. A member of Ardee Golf Club for almost 30 years, he is a former hon. treasurer and hon. secretary of the club and was captain in 1988. Kevin is also a member of Seapoint Golf Club and is president this year.

He has been a council member of Golfing Union of Ireland Leinster Branch since 1995, convenor of venues & fixtures committee of the Golfing Union of Ireland and is a qualified tournament referee. He joins CONGU at a time of major change with discussion presently underway to integrate the men’s and ladies’ handicapping schemes.
