After more than a decade at the helm of one of Europe’s most successful golf apparel businesses, Colin Mee will retire as Managing Director of Glenmuir at the end of this month.

Since joining in late 2002 from Osan Ltd, Colin has overseen a period of tremendous growth for the Lanark, Scotland based company and he has been pivotal in its establishment as Europe’s leading supplier of high quality corporate and crested golfwear.

During his tenure, he has managed Glenmuir’s proud position as the official supplier of shirts and knitwear to the European Ryder Cup Team for five matches – four of which have been won by Europe – and also helped prepare for next year’s 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.

In the past 11 years, Colin has also received several high profile awards on behalf of the company, including the prestigious 25-year Supplier Award for the Glenmuir’s sponsorship of the PGA and a plaque commemorating a quarter of a century of working with the Ryder Cup Committee.

And in 2010, he successfully managed the integration of the sales, marketing, product development and distribution of the Sunderland of Scotland brand into Glenmuir’s Delves Road factory.

Colin said: “Of course it’s a sad day for me, but I have some absolutely wonderful memories and I’ve been very privileged to meet and work with some fantastic people in the past 11 years.

“There have been so many highlights, both personally and on a business level. To have played a small role and been involved in the incredible Ryder Cup victory in the ‘Miracle at Medinah’ is something that I will never forget, while receiving an award from Jose Maria Olazabal at 40,000 feet prior to that amazing match was also very, very special.

“I’m also very proud of Glenmuir’s relationship with the PGA, which has lasted over 25 years and is testament to the fine people that both of us have in our respective organisations. But I know I’m leaving Glenmuir in safe hands and I send my thanks and best wishes to everyone associated with this fantastic business.”

Colin began his Glenmuir career when it was purchased by Ordinal Limited, a company formed principally by the Ruia family, who own Osan Ltd where he was managing director.

The Ruia family are still actively involved and Colin is succeeded by Mikhel Ruia, with Vimal Ruia continuing to support the Glenmuir management team in the role of Non-Executive Chairman.

Mikhel Ruia said: “Colin has been, and remains, a close and great friend to our family. He has taken the company from strength to strength and we are excited and are looking forward to taking the company to its next stage of growth. We wish Colin a healthy, relaxing and long retirement.”

Glenmuir is the official supplier of shirts and knitwear to the European Ryder Cup Team and a brand at the forefront of the golfwear industry since 1891. Its clothing has been worn by every member of the European Ryder Cup Team since 1987 – proving its ability to deliver the very highest levels of style and performance.
