Bowood Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort in Wiltshire has appointed PGA Professional Gregg Hood as its PGA Academy Director and Head Professional.
Hood steps up to the role having already played a prominent part in transitioning Bowood to becoming a PGA certified course in his previous role as an assistant professional at the club..
Responsible for increasing the potential of the coaching team, Hood’s role will involve improving the experience at the academy and creating happier and higher performing golfers, whilst extending knowledge and facilities beyond just members of Bowood Golf, and onto anyone who would benefit from their expertise.
A year after he joined in 2014, Hood became a TPI Certified Fitness Professional, offering TPI screenings to help improve mobility, stability and balance. As a level 2 TPI Certified Junior Coach, he also heads up the Junior Golf Programme – Bowood Junior Golf Academy and offers coaching to juniors aged five and upwards.
Hood takes the reins from PGA Fellow Professional Nicky Lawrenson, who steps down from the role to spearhead her successful ‘Women in Golf & Business’ company, which aims to provide a supportive platform empowering women across all sectors of business to embrace and enjoy the professional, personal and well-being benefits of the game. Nicky continues to work alongside Bowood offering Women in Golf & Business Workshops, plus various ladies ‘Get into Golf’ programmes.
Discussing his appointment, Hood said: “I’m excited to take on this new role and continue the growth and development of the golf experience at Bowood. Following in Nicky’s footsteps, we will work with players individually to understand how to improve their game – whether that’s physically, mentally or strategically. By pinpointing an individual’s needs we can decide what the best course of action is.
“I also aim to build a link between the coaching team and the spa’s personal training team, so we can develop the physical aspects of a player’s game and help produce some of the best performing golfers, who feel confident in executing their game to a high standard.”
