Birchwood Park Golf Centre Claims Five Prizes at BGL Annual Awards

Burhill Golf and Leisure Limited (BGL Golf) announces that Melanie Drake was named General Manager of the Year at the company’s recent awards dinner held at Burhill Golf Club.

Melanie, who manages Birchwood Park Golf Centre won BGL’s premier award at the end of a year in which the Kent club also picked up a further four of the company’s awards, including the coveted Best Overall Team Performance 2014.

“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Melanie and her team for a fantastic performance during the last year,” said Colin Mayes, CEO of BGL. “The awards they have received are extremely well deserved.”

“Trading conditions have been tough throughout the year but that has not stopped Birchwood Park announcing a significant growth in both sales and profits.

“There is also always a real buzz about the club and that is down to the dedication and professionalism of Melanie and her team.”

“It’s a great thrill to be named as BGL’s General Manager of the Year and also for Birchwood Park to pick up the accolades for sales growth, profit growth, key performance drivers and overall performance,” said Melanie, who has been the General Manager at the Dartford venue since October 2012. “We have had a very successful year and the whole team deserves great credit for the results.”

BGL Golf announced a raft of award winners during its annual celebration. Aldwickbury Park Golf Club in Hertfordshire collected both the Food & Beverage Standards and Retail Standards Awards for the year while Abbey Hill Golf Centre in Milton Keynes won the award for Golf Course Standards and Wycombe Heights Golf Centre in Loudwater, High Wycombe, claimed the Financial Standards award. Redbourn Golf Club, near St Albans, was the winner of the Retail Sales Growth award and its F & B team claimed the Making a Difference “MAD” Moment award. The Shropshire Golf Centre in Telford won the prizes for Sales and Marketing Standards and Outstanding Overall Performance while Burhill Golf Club in Surrey collected the Health and Safety Standards award.

Melanie was not the only individual BGL employee cited at this year’s annual awards. Mike O’Connell, the General Manager at the Hoebridge Golf Centre, in Woking, collected the annual Customer Service prize while the following eleven individuals received Employee of the Year Awards: Carol Kent (Head Office). Katrien Schepens (Burhill Golf Club), Sarah Blunden (Wycombe Heights), Georgina Robinson (Ramsdale Park) Jenny Bullock (Abbey Hill), Robert Moore (The Shropshire), Liz Roberts (Aldwickbury), Louis Downie (Redbourn), Louise Kucharski Brooks (Thornbury), Donna Matthews (Hoebridge) and James McGilvray (Birchwood Park).
