Ashworth Sponsors Promising New Professional

9.00am 20th January 2000 - People

Golf apparel manufacture Ashworth is to sponsor newly turned professional 22 year old Ben Mason from Yorkshire.

Ben took up the game aged 13 having been inspired by Nick Faldo’s victory at The Masters. He left school at 16 to take up golf seriously and practised seven days a week. He was playing off scratch by the time he was 18, gained his first cap for England in 1998 and reached the semi-finals of the British Amateur Championships in the same year.

Tony Wilkinson, Managing Director of Ashworth UK Ltd comments, “Ben is the first newly turned professional player we have chosen to sponsor – we think he’ll go far. We are already looking around for other players who have recently secured their European Tour Cards and hope by the end of the year we will have our very own “Rookie Squad”.
