Three-time European Tour winner and IMG Golf client, Alex Norén, has launched a Challenge Camp for Sweden’s top twelve boy and girl junior golfers. The camp will be held annually at his home club, Haninge Golf Club. The first edition of Alex Challenge Camp will take place on 20-22 August 2013.
Norén was ranked #56 in the world after the 2012 season and is currently the leading Swede on the 2013 Race to Dubai. The unique camp is supported by Red Bull, Hugo Boss and Callaway and has been set up as a way to give back to Swedish golf, an organization that aided his development as a junior, and to encourage the next generation of Swedish elite golfers.
The concept of the camp is based on Norén’s own experiences as a junior and his seven years of experience on the European Tour. At the campNorén will host three days of inspiration and creativity by providing the attendees with exciting challenges. He wants them to try new things and get out of their comfort zone, and help them work on their attitude – an element of golf that he believes is crucial to the development of Sweden’s next generation of players. At Alex Challenge Camp the player’s attitude will be firmly tested in many different ways.
Commenting on the launch of the camp, Alex Norén said: “I am excited to give something back to Swedish golf, and to work with these young, fantastic golfers. There are many ways to make good scores and that is for every player to learn on their own. However, I believe that there is a common denominator of all successful golfers – and that is attitude. With good attitude and a strong will you can achieve what you want both on and off the course.”
He continued, “My college coach at OklahomaStateUniversity made me realize what it would take to reach the top. I learned so much from him and I have continued to learn and grow my game and attitude during my seven years on the tour. Now I want to try to convey to the next generation of golfers and I hope to give them an even better position to succeed in their future careers.”
The lucky six boys and six girls up to the age of 21 will get invitations based on the rankings and some wild cards. The Swedish Golf Team National Head Coach, Katarina Vangdal, appreciates Alex´s initiative and said, “We are excited to send some of our most talented juniors to this camp. Alex is a fantastic role model and we really appreciate when our established players spends time and effort to grow Swedish golf. We know by experience that these events make a huge difference and inspire the next generation in a way nothing else can compete with.”
