A vintage night out for golf industry movers and shakers

6.45pm 1st August 2007 - People

More than 300 members of the golf industry attended a sparkling Open party held at Dundee’s stunning Discovery Point on the evening of 18th July.

Organised by the Trinity Partnership and sponsored by Tourism Ireland, Golf Monthly, the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) and Pro Shop Europe the aim was to bring everyone in the business of golf together for a memorable night out and it scored a hit on every point.

The wine flowed as guests enjoyed a barbecue and a non-stop programme of entertainment from the Scottish Blues Brothers, a DJ and the golf scene’s favourite entertainer Paul Dobie.

Guests were drawn from golf manufacturers, the media, golf clubs, management companies, hoteliers, resorts and tourism bodies and even Sky’s David Livingstone and DJ Spoony dropped in to mingle with guests.

Prior to the event the Trinity Partnership had also arranged a two hour drinks party on board the Discovery ship for IAGTO members which was sponsored by Gloria, the five star golf resort in Turkey. Guests arrived by open top double decker bus from Carnoustie and enjoyed a special wine tasting with vintages supplied by many of the top golfers who own vineyards such as Nick Faldo and Greg Norman alongside selected wines flown in especially from Austria, Argentina and Chateau des Vigiers in France.

Nick White, owner of the five star Inn at Lathlones, arranged the tasting and also supplied superb canapà©s freshly prepared in the boat’s tiny kitchen by his own chefs. Throughout it all the unstoppable Paul Dobie serenaded guests with jazzy sounds from his extensive repertoire whilst a Sky News crew filmed a feature about the event.

Anne Harper, director of the Trinity Partnership commented, “Both events were a huge success and warmly appreciated by all who attended. We have to thank the sponsors who supported both events so enthusiastically and also the hundreds of guests, from the scores of individuals to some like EMAP Golf and Adidas/Taylor Made who turned up in large numbers to really make the events go with a swing.

“We are already in the stages of planning the Open Party for Royal Birkdale 2008 and we promise an equally exciting event although on a very different theme.”
