Scheffler wins The Masters by Stealth

8.45am 11th April 2022 - People

Scottie Scheffler’s remarkable run of form continued on Sunday as the 25-year-old American claimed his first major championship when winning The Masters by three shots from Rory McIlroy.

Scheffler’s win comes amongst a magical stretch where he has won four tournaments in his last six starts.

The world no.1 held the lead the field from the second round, shooting scores of 69, 67, 71 and 71 for a 10-under-par winning total.

Scheffler made two birdies on the front first nine on Sunday to turn in 34, before holding strong on the second nine 37 to secure the green jacket at the third time of asking.

The win marks Scheffler’s fourth this season, all of which have been achieved with TaylorMade‘s Stealth Plus 9.0° Carbonwood driver and P·7TW irons and his second with his Stealth (13.5°) high launch 3-wood.

Scheffler signed a multi-year deal with TaylorMade last month, prior to that he had been a free agent, but had been using TaylorMade irons throughout his professional career. He made his first start as a TaylorMade staffer at The Players Championship

With Scheffler at the top of the leaderboard, TaylorMade finished with three players in the top five, with Rory McIlroy finishing second (-7) and Collin Morikawa (-4) coming fifth. Both McIlroy and Morikawa both chipped in from the right-hand bunker on the 18th hole for closing birdies, with the Northern Irishman’s closing 64 matching the record for the lowest round at Augusta.
