Sarah Bennett, Head PGA Teaching Professional at Three Rivers Golf & Country Club, is the author of ‘GolfingGirl’ which she set up five years ago using the various social media platforms to introduce Ladies to each other and grow the game of golf.
Despite talk of the decline in the Women’s game Sarah has seen a remarkable and steady growth year on year. She offers a multitude of events which are always well-attended and has a thorough understanding of the Women’s game from grass roots to the elite level.
Her experience is second to none. She was the first of two female golf professionals to attend the Sports Coach UK Women in High performance coaching programme again as a role model to grow the game. “My background within the industry of 25 years has provided me with the additional tools to provide the practical coaching application, seeking first hand experience,” says Sarah.
“It is not easy in the golf industry as Women form a very small minority within the coaching arena but I do hear many female golfers requesting the option have the choice of the instructor which is vital in the on- going development of women’s golf
“I regularly coach ladies who travel an hour to attend the sessions which are far more than just the technical side of coaching, which is not necessarily what my clients are seeking. One of the ladies who I started progressed to Ladies Club Champion with a very high percentage joining Three Rivers & surrounding clubs which is wonderful to see. There are many other personal goals being achieved of which these are shared within the network.
“Golfinggirl is unique and is not just an initiative as I am advancing into the sixth year with many other plans in place, which will be announced in due course. One of my achievements is the growth of Golfinggirl junior in which 8 girls asked me to continue with my coaching activities when the local CAP programme wrapped up. I initiated the inaugural visit with 6 County girls of which I coached four on an individual basis to the Ladies European Tour Masters last year to explain and show what life on tour was like with the assistance of my former playing colleague Eva Lotta, who I hadn’t seen since our playing days. As the current Essex County Coach I place high importance on the team structure and now after four years as Head Coach this area of development is our strength which is a highly sought after attribute.
“I will be accompanying the players again this year to the ISPS Handa Event as part of their progression. In addition I will be coaching with my fellow colleagues in the coaching zone for the four days of the event. I look forward to welcoming the public to the event and as a former Tour player for 20 years will be on hand to answer any questions they may have.”
