Upmarket Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer has entered into the golf GPS market with the launch of the Connected Modular 45 Golf Edition.
Although it has been manufacturing smart watches since 2015, this is the first time that the luxury brand has moved into the golf market.
The Golf Edition watch combines a golf-inspired design and shock-resistant materials with an advanced Golf app which provides 3D renderings of more than 39,000 golf courses and provides comprehensive performance analysis.
The full-colour touchscreen is covered with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, and the watch itself is equipped with multiple sensors, such as GPS, an accelerometer, a gyroscope and a microphone. It can also send messages, receive notifications, play music and download other apps, as well as be used for contactless payments through Google Pay. It has a battery life of 25 hours in GPS mode.
The Golf app is available to download for free and can be used on the Golf Edition, as well as other TAG Heuer smart watches. It’ll record shot distances with an accuracy to within one metre, record scores for up to four players and display distances to green and hazards. It also offers 2D course mapping on the watch and precise 3D mapping.
From the phone app, it uses vector technology to display courses in greater detail displaying bunkers, fairways and rough with maps that are interactive and scrollable. After each round, scores and performance data are stored in the app and locally on the watch where you can delve into stats including including putting average, longest drive and score distribution.
Among the Golf Edition’s key design features is a black ceramic bezel ring, which is laser engraved with a scale of 1 to 18 – indicating the 18 holes in a round of golf. Filled in with white lacquer, the scale stands out from the predominantly black finish. The sandblasted case is made from black PVD titanium. The watch is fitted with a white strap with green stitching, although a black strap is also included in the package, along with three complementary Tag Heuer logoed golf balls.
