Toro’s Groundsmaster 4000-D rotary mower range has been revamped to offer dramatic efficiency savings without compromising on performance or productivity. And, better yet, intelligent power- and fuel-use technologies mean that the 4000-D and 4100-D models are leading the way in complying with new EU emissions regulations for non-road vehicles.

The key is Smart Power. Acting as the ‘brains’ of the machine, this revolutionary system automatically controls mowing speed and optimises cutting performance. It particularly prevents bogging down in heavy turf, providing an unmatched quality of cut even in difficult conditions and/or when operated by a new user. The result is increased productivity, but reduced fuel and running costs.

But the intelligent features don’t stop there. The Mini InfoCenter monitoring and control system puts all the information an operator needs at their fingertips. Get instant updates about potential problems and diagnostics for simpler maintenance. Change speed on the move, control operator settings and receive handy notifications. Users will also appreciate features like the isolated operator platform, electronically controlled pedals and the four-way adjustable air ride suspension seat, all of which keep operators comfortable and productive.

Another plus point is All-Time Traction Assist. Available as standard on the 4000-D and as an option on the 4100-D, this patented, parallel hydraulic traction system works in harmony with the four-wheel-drive system to prevent tyre slips and ripped turf in muddy or wet conditions. It’s automatic and always on, allowing users to mow with confidence, whatever the conditions.

The Groundsmaster 4000-D and 4100-D models also benefit from Toro’s SmartCool auto-reversing cooling fan. This automatically blows grass cuttings and debris off the intake screen to guard against overheating, reducing the amount of time an operator spends cleaning the back hood as well as being a more efficient means of cooling the engine and hydraulics.

Protecting all these clever features is the rugged, durable build quality you’d expect from Toro. From the industry’s toughest spindle assembly, to a bull-nose bumper and robust deck construction, Toro has tested the design to ensure it can take a beating and excel in the most demanding conditions. Running costs are further reduced thanks to the use of hard-wearing, long-lasting parts.

And to ensure EU emissions regulations compliance for non-road vehicles, Toro has sourced a new and improved engine for both the 4000-D and 4100-D as well as the 4500-D and 4700-D mowers. Thanks to Smart Power, switching from a Kubota 58hp engine to a more advanced, and more power- and fuel-efficient 48hp Yanmar unit, these Groundsmaster models comply.

Toro has also ensured the cost of compliance is not passed on to customers, meaning these models carry the same price tag as their predecessors. The new and improved engine reduces vibration for increased operator comfort, too.

Commenting on the benefits the new models bring, distributor Lely’s Toro national sales manager Jeff Anguige says: “The innovative, patented technology packed into these new models has to be seen to be believed. Cost and performance comparisons are also available, including some very convincing videos that demonstrate features like Smart Power at work on Toro’s YouTube channel. I’d urge anyone considering a rotary mower upgrade who also wants to ensure future EU compliance to contact us for an insight into the efficiency savings these models offer.”
