Ko pays homage to heritage with custom-designed ECCO shoe

ECCO GOLF ambassador Lydia Ko has combined her South Korean and Kiwi heritage with a custom version of the brand-new ECCO BIOM G5 shoe as part of the brand’s AW22 collection.

Ko has helped to create a sleek, stylish version of the BIOM G5 that reflects both her personality and her dual-nationality roots.

The 25-year-old, who has 23 professional wins to her name, has designed her ECCO BIOM G5 with cherry blossoms styled onto one side of the shoe, and black ferns on the other, paying homage to her country of birth, South Korea, and the country in which she grew up, New Zealand, respectively.

In addition, Ko’s signature is emblazoned on the inside of the shoe, along with her logo on the tongue. The shoe is a fitting tribute to one of the world’s greatest female golfers, who has close to 30 tour victories to her name, including two major championships.

“I’m extremely excited to join forces with ECCO GOLF to create my own unique take on the brand-new BIOM G5 shoes,” commented Ko. “ECCO GOLF is renowned for raising the bar for golf shoe design, and it’s fantastic that I have had the chance to stamp my personality on this new style.

“The features we have added to the BIO G5 are very close to my heart, and it’s going to be really cool walking the golf course week-in-week-out with the black ferns and cherry blossoms on my feet. Hopefully I’ll be wearing them to lift plenty more trophies in the future!”

Fashioned from embossed ECCO Performance Leather and a sporty mesh, the shoe has a contemporary, athletic design, including an eye-catching midsole and colour blocks on the side. A low toe profile gives it a sleeker silhouette, with the women’s shoe offering a more refined and feminine aesthetic.
