Leading golf apparel brand Glenmuir has introduced one of the world’s most advanced weatherpoofing finishes to knitwear its latest Autumn/Winter 2010 Collection.

The Scotland-based company’s new seasonal collection features Men’s and Ladies Performance Knitwear, a hi-tech range of five special weather-beating wool sweaters which sit alongside its acclaimed Performance Shirts.

Three, including the new men’s ‘Arctic’ sweater, feature the revolutionary Bionic Finish®, a German-made

textile system inspired by structures in the natural world – like the microscopically small grooves in a shark’s skin that channel water in a controlled manner.

Nano-technology used in the development of Bionic Finish® creates an invisible water, oil and soil repellant protective shield on the garment while helping to keep the fabric and colours looking new.

The ‘Arctic’ is made from a 100% machine washable merino wool and acrylic blend and features a stylish zip-neck with a subtle ‘needle out’ stripe design. It boasts a lightweight, windproof Storm Bloc® lining and double cuffs and welt to enhance its weather beating properties.

Launching the company’s Autumn/Winter 2010 Collection, Glenmuir marketing director, Brian Mair, said: “Glenmuir has a fantastic track record of introducing new ‘smart fabric’ technologies to golfers and the Bionic Finish® is the latest in a long line of innovations which continually improve the performance of our apparel.

“Our new Performance Sweaters demonstrate that technical development isn’t restricted to polo shirts – where we’ve extensively used ThermoCool, Hi-Cool® and CoolMax® moisture management systems – and that modern knitwear can be developed to incorporate the lightness and weatherproofing that somany golfers now desire.”

Available in sizes S-XXL and in three colours – Black/Charcoal, Blue/Linen and Linen/Leather – the ‘Arctic’ has a RRP of £70.

Bionic Finish® has also been used in the ‘Emily’ sweater in Glenmuir’s Ladies’ Performance Knitwear range. In Black, Paradise and Winter White colours, it features all the technology features of the men’s ‘Arctic’ model with the addition of a stylish raised, diamond intarsia front panel (RRP £70).

Glenmuir has introduced two stunning new contemporary colour palettes for the season – New England Fall (forest green, rust, stone, leather and winter white); and Northern Skies (black, white, lilac, charcoal, grey and silver). Both complement its popular ‘Blue Stone’ theme (three classic shades of blue combining with stone and white).

Glenmuir is a preferred supplier to The European Ryder Cup Team, will be lead vendor in the Ryder Cup Merchandise Pavilion at this year’s Ryder Cup in Wales, and is a licensee of Open Championship official merchandise.
