Cobra Golf introduces Radspeed range

5.51pm 8th December 2020 - New Products

Cobra Golf has unveiled details of its new RADSPEED range of drivers, fairways woods, hybrids and irons, all of which go on sale from January 29 next year.

Products in the Radpseed range have all been designed to maximize performance through optimized weighting and an array of advanced technologies that are unique to Cobra.

The design concept of the entire range originated from a popular formula in engineering called ‘radius of gyration’, which is the distance from the club’s centre of gravity to each weight or technology location. Cobra’s engineers discovered that by increasing the radius of gyration and the distance between the front and back weights, they could create the perfect blend of fast ball speed, low spin, and forgiveness in one driver. Utilizing radial weighting, the weight is strategically positioned in each of the three new driver models, creating three distinct launch trajectories.

The standard RADSPEED driver for faster swingers who want distance through faster ball speeds, low spin and trajectory control; the RADSPEED Xtreme Back driver is for players who want distance through faster ball speeds and consistency across the face in the form forgiveness and stability; while the RADSPEED Xtreme Draw driver for those who want distance while reducing their slice or creating a draw.

RADSPEED DRIVER
The RADSPEED driver is designed with a 460cc traditional shape, and forward-biased radial weighting to appeal to the better player seeking low spin, low launch and workability.
The chassis features 28g positioned in the front, (16g of fixed weight; & 12g adjustable weight) and an additional 10g positioned in the back (8g fixed weight; 2g adjustable weight) to create the perfect balance of front and back weighting for speed and stability. By pushing the weight as far forward and as far back as possible, COBRA engineers were able to design a driver capable of providing the fastest ball speed with extreme forgiveness – an engineering feat that has not been achieved until now.
Using a lighter T-Bar Speed Chassis and a thinner Carbon Fibre Wrap Crown, engineers were able to save 13g (7g in the chassis/6g in the carbon) that they could reposition forward to lower the CG and produce more speed. Two adjustable weights in the front and back (12g & 2g) allow players to fine-tune their desired launch and spin performance. A final but very notable feature of the new RADSPEED driver is the CNC milled infinity face, which requires about 25 minutes of milling for every single clubface produced. Cobra’s CNC milling process is a significant advancement over the traditional hand polishing method and produces thickness and bulge and roll tolerances that are up to five times more precise. This process ensures consistent performance on every driver, which delivers thinner faces for maximum ball speed and perfect curvatures for forgiveness on off-center hits.
An adjustable MyFly loft sleeve enables the 10.5° driver to be set at lofts between 9° and 12°, while the 9° model can be adjusted between 7.5° and 10.5°.  RRP: £369

RADSPEED XB DRIVER
Designed for players who want plenty of speed and distance, but value forgiveness and a club that flies straight, the RADSPEED XB features an oversized address profile that inspires confidence on the tee.
The 460cc clubhead utilizes rear-biased radial weighting to deliver the fastest and straightest ball flight of the three models. The driver features 20g positioned in the back (14g of fixed weight; 6g interchangeable weight), and 8g of fixed weight in the front. For golfers that preferred Cobra’s 2020 SPEEDZONE Xtreme driver, the RADSPEED XB delivers even more ball speed and lower spin while maintaining extreme stability.
Additional technologies featured in the XB driver include a titanium T-Bar speed chassis, thin-ply carbon fibre crown and CNC milled infinity face.
An adjustable MyFly loft sleeve enables the 12° driver to be set at lofts between 13.5° and 9°, while the 10.5° model can be adjusted between 12° and 9°. The 9° driver can be adjusted between 7° and 10.5°. RRP: £369

RADSPEED XD DRIVER
The RADSPEED XD is Cobra’s longest and fastest draw-biased driver designed to provide maximum distance and slice-fighting power. It features the same slightly oversized 460cc profile as the XB, but with heel-biased radial weighting. A total of 10g of fixed internal weight is positioned in the heel to enable easier face closure for straighter, draw-biased drives. Another 14g is positioned in the back for extreme forgiveness, while 8g is positioned in the front to increase speed.
An adjustable MyFly loft sleeve enables the 12° driver to be set at lofts between 13.5° and 9°, while the 10.5° model can be adjusted between 12° and 9°. RRP: £369

WOMEN’S RADSPEED DRIVERS
Women’s models also are available in both the RADSPEED XB and XD drivers in a gloss black/elderberry colour scheme featuring a Project X Even Flow Riptide shaft and Lamkin Crossline 58R COBRA CONNECT grip. RRP: £369

RADSPEED FAIRWAYS
Complimenting the innovative line of RADSPEED drivers are a full line up of RADSPEED fairway metals.
Utilising weight savings from a thinner carbon crown design, Cobra engineers were able to free up more discretionary weight to position it forward and increase ball speed.
Using strategic Radial Weighting in each of the four models – RADSPEED, RADSPEED Big Tour, RADSPEED Tour and RADSPEED Draw – Cobra engineers were able to create distinct performances. Each features Cobra’s signature Baffler Hollow Split Rails, which increase flex on the leading edge by 70% to increase speed while still providing excellent turf interaction.

RADSPEED fairway woods feature a traditional shape with a balance of front and back Radial Weighting (16g in the front & 7g in the back) to deliver ultra-low spin, with high launch and forgiveness.  A CNC Milled Infinity Face makes its way into the RADSPEED fairway for the first time, creating a face design that is up to five times more precise than hand-polished fairways. Aftermarket shafts options include Fujikura Motore X F3 (Stiff & Reg) and Project X Even Flow Riptide (Lite flex). It is available in Gloss Black or Turbo Yellow.

RADSPEED BIG TOUR and TOUR Fairways both feature 23g of front-biased radial weighting (16g internal & a 7g front weight). The Big Tour 3-wood features a slightly oversized profile, and a stronger loft setting, making it the fastest, and lowest-spinning fairway in the lineup, and the perfect complement to the RADSPEED Driver, whether off the tee or on the fairway. The Tour 5-wood features a compact profile for maximum workability. Both are available in Matte Black /Turbo Yellow and come with a Fujikura Motore X F1 shaft (X, S).

RADSPEED DRAW Fairways features 16g of heel-biased internal Radial Weighting a 7g weight in the back to create draw-bias and medium-to-high ball flights, forgiveness and maximum slice correction power. A CNC Milled Infinity Face is also included, delivering precision and increasing the zone of maximum ball speed. Available in Gloss Black with Turbo Yellow colorway and a Project X Even Flow Riptide shaft (Stiff, Reg and Lite).

RADSPEED and RADSPEED DRAW Fairways are available in 3W (14.5 o), 5W (18.5 o) & 7W (22.5 o), with the BIG TOUR available in a 3W (13.5 o) and the TOUR model available in a 5W (17.5 o). The RADSPEED and RAD SPEED DRAW models also available in women’s offerings in Elderberry/Gloss Black colorway. RRP: £229

RADSPEED HYBRIDS
Radspeed hybrids, which are available in both standard (Gloss Black/Turbo Yellow colorway) and One Length (Matte Black/Red/Blue/White) models, also utilize Radial Weighting Technology with the emphasis on extreme front weighting for ultra-low spin, faster ball speed, and increased distance. A forged, high-strength steel face insert, and Hollow Split Rails combine to create a lower CG location, higher launch angles, more distance, and enhanced versatility from a variety of lies.
The Baffler sole rails are a signature feature of COBRA’s fairways and hybrids, and allow the club to glide effortlessly out of the fairway, tight lies, thick rough and even bunkers.
RADSPEED ONE Length is designed in a shorter set up (37.50”) that compliments the ONE Length irons in a combo set. Both the standard RADSPEED hybrid (available in 2H (17 o), 3H (19 o), 4H (21 o) and 5H (24 o)) and ONE Length model (available in 3H (19 o), 4H (21 o), 5H (24 o)) come stock with UST Recoil 480 ESX premium shafts and Lamkin Crossline (58+) COBRA CONNECT Grips. The RADSPEED Hybrid is also available in a women’s offering (4H, 5H, 6H and 7H) in a Gloss Black & Elderberry colorway.  RRP: £189

RADSPEED IRONS
The RADSPEED Variable and ONE Length Irons maximize performance through the strategic placement of weight relative to the centre of gravity to optimize speed and forgiveness. Both models feature radial weighting and debut the first ever 3D-printed nylon medallion, which serves to save weight and fine-tune feel.
COBRA engineers discovered that by positioning more mass low on the heel and toe, they could lower the CG while dramatically improving the stability of the clubhead. 10g, in the form of a screw-in weight, is positioned in the toe and 3g of mass, is positioned in the heel to create the best combination of low CG, and high MOI for the fast ball speed and high launch.
The 10g screw is a nominal weight used by COBRA to guarantee perfect head weights for improved builds. During custom builds this weight may be adjusted +/- 6g utilizing weights ranging from 4g to 16g in increments of 2g to dial in proper swing weights when customizing length or shafts. This weighting system delivers an iron set that is truly custom built for the golfer. Radial Weighting is a critical component of the design that allows the RADSPEED irons to maintain high launch and maximum carry distance, despite having a stronger loft.
In addition, the irons feature a unique carbon fibre topline that saves 2g to lower the CG and improve launch and spin characteristics. An all-new black carbon fibre cosmetic creates the appearance of a thinner topline for a sleeker and more compact look at address.
Cobra’s PWRSHELL technology continues to offer increased speed and higher launch even on stronger lofted irons. The forged PWRSHELL Face insert in the RADSPEED iron is made of a high-strength stainless steel, allowing for a thinner and more flexible face design that increases ball speed on and around the Sweet Spot.

The RADSPEED Variable Length Irons feature progressive head shapes (two-piece metalwood construction on 4-7i and one-piece construction on 8-SW), groove shapes (V groove for reduced spin in the long irons and U groove for added spin in the short irons), and hosel lengths (shorter in the long irons and taller in the wedges) to optimize distance, launch characteristics, and accuracy for each respective iron category – long irons, mid-irons and wedges.

The RADSPEED One Length Irons offer all the same RADSPEED technologies in a set design that offers matching shaft lengths (37.50 inches), head weights and swing weights in every iron. In addition, the use of fine-tuned lie angles and progressive shaft weighting promotes high launch and forgiveness in the long irons, and lower launch with more control in the scoring irons and wedges.
Starting at 6i-4i the sole widths get progressively wider (vs. Variable length) to ensure deeper CGs delivering easy up and higher ball flights. This change in CG helps to deliver proper distance gapping in the longer irons that most golfers struggle with.

RADSPEED Variable Length irons are available in a Nickel Chrome finish with Black/Turbo Yellow medallion and come stock in 5-GW (RH/LH; Steel – £749 / Graphite – £849) or 4-PW (RH; Steel £749). Each option comes standard with a KBS Tour 90 shaft in stiff or regular flex and a Lamkin Crossline (58+) Connect Black grip. The stock graphite offering utilizes a UST Recoil ESX 460 shaft in stiff, regular and senior flex.

COBRA RADSPEED ONE Length irons are available in a Nickel Chrome finish with a Black/Silver/Blue/Red medallion and come stock in a 5-GW (RH/LH; Steel – £749 / Graphite £849). Standard steel shaft is the KBS Tour 80 (4-6i), KBS Tour 90 (7-9i) and Tour 120 (PW, SW) shaft and a Lamkin Crossline Connect Blue grip. The graphite stock offering is a UST Recoil ESX 460 (4-9i) and a UST Recoil ESX 480 (PW, SW).
