‘Joined-up thinking’ for Europe’s golf business

9.44am 14th November 2008 - Media

Golf Business Development magazine (GBD) is a new trade journal with a mandate to shake up the European golf industry. Its publishers promise a new ‘joined-up thinking’ to unite the market and assist definite progress in the development of the sport.

Bursting with news, analysis, opinion, features and interviews, GBD is here to raise eyebrows, make others nod sagely and still others drop their marmalade.

With six issues per year starting in early 2009, GBD will cover the whole golf trade in its editorial scope, from the established golf course developer, the course owner, the golf marketing expert, through to the aspiring young PGA professional and trainee golf course architect.

Stressing the slogan: ‘Joined-up thinking for the European golf business’, GBD provides independent and commercially valuable intelligence for owners, operators, developers, investors, general managers, course managers, PGA professionals and off-course retailers, golf administrators, and all suppliers of products and services to and for the business of golf.

GBD is published and edited by Ben Evans, former editor of Pro Shop Europe magazine (1998-2004), a journalist with more than 15 years experience in magazine publishing. He is joined in this project by consultant editor Geoff Russell, with 30 years experience in the golf industry, who is proprietor and editor of www.golfbusinessnews.com and the on-line version of the Golf Owners Operators and Developers Directory.

Ben Evans said, “If you are an innovator, a forward-thinker, someone who is part of the positive development of the sport, let Golf Business Development tell your story in a fresh and exciting way and help you to find the audience you need.”

GBD will be available free to its readers in 2009, and the February/March launch issue is clearly being eagerly anticipated in the trade.

Ben Evans added, “The team has attended four key trade shows and conferences recently in Munich (Golf Europe), Harrogate (GTEC and TGI Golf Show) and Berlin (The European Golf Business Conference) and we have been absolutely delighted with the positive response GBD has received from the golf industry. During the next two months we will enjoy talking to many of our readers, friends old and new, and look forward to our launch in early 2009.”

Eighty per cent of the magazine’s readers are expected to be from amongst owners, developers, managers, directors of golf, PGA professionals, off-course retail outlets and course managers in the UK and Europe. Around 15 per cent will be made up of suppliers of services and products, and 5 per cent from the administrators and governors of the game.

Geoff Russell said, “I am delighted to be involved in this project, which is absolutely complementary to what we aim to achieve with Golf Business News.com. GBD is interested in everything from the building of a multi-million pound resort to a simple but effective local project to get more schoolchildren playing the game; from moving the earth to make golf courses, the creation of beautiful greens, the production of technology and equipment to help the handicap golfer to enjoy their golf, to advancements in coaching, changes in the Rules of Golf, and wider issues of investment, politics and the environment.

“GBD is a genuinely groundbreaking publication coming at a perfect time for the industry. In this climate it is vital that all decision makers have access to first-class and up to date information. Watch this space for news on a number of initiatives highlighted by GBD that will have a significant impact on the progress of our sport.”
