Golf Business Development June/July 2009

At 60 pages and weighing about the same as a healthy adult brown trout, Golf Business Development magazine offers the tastiest read in the golf trade. GBD’s second issue (June/July) has received a highly positive response from across the golf industry.

Its slogan, “Joined-up thinking for the European golf business”, is certainly hitting home with go-ahead professionals in all market sectors, from the established golf course developer, the course owner, director of golf, the golf marketing expert, through to the aspiring young PGA professional and trainee golf course architect.

Some 2,500 copies are being printed and distributed in the UK and internationally, while the magazine can be read on-line at www.golfbusinessdevelopment.com (see ‘Current Issue’). GBD is also available to more than 8,000 readers of Golf Business News.Com. This combination of ‘hard-copy’ and on-line availability gives Golf Business Development a depth of coverage and readership which is truly remarkable for such a new publication.

Already very popular with PGA pros, directors of golf and club management staff, the GBD team has been delighted with feedback for issue 2.

GBD editor Ben Evans said, “Everyone is telling us that they want to read in-depth features on the people who are making things happen in golf. Innovation creates money and jobs and GBD celebrates innovative people, products and services across the industry. It is quickly becoming the place to read about the latest hot topics, written by some of the industry’s top minds.

“In a fast-changing business environment, now more than ever we all need good business information and sound advice. GBD is here to provide this while also supplying all the news on products that professionals need to help run their businesses well, from the pro shop to the clubhouse.”

For this issue, GBD is delighted to welcome doyen of both the golf writing and course architecture world Donald Steel, conference specialist and forward-thinker Gill Wilson, leading course architect William Swan, insurance guru David Griffiths, marketing experts Bill Sanderson and Emma Stansfield, and the always humorous and insightful Clive Agran.

Consultant editor Geoff Russell’s in-depth feature on golf’s potential to become an Olympic sport has already been praised by readers, while new CMAE president Lt Col John Hunt gives a detailed interview with his view on the best way to run golf clubs.

Read about how young volunteers could make a big impact in junior golf, and find pieces on girls’ golf and our very own ‘UK Golf Rich List’, detailing the big fish in British golf (are you on the list?).

New sections like ‘Top dressing’ for fashion, ‘Baywatch’ for all things practice, and a valuable diary page sit among some excellent illustration, photography (by Mark Newcombe) and page design. And of course, there is all the golf equipment and product news needed to boost sales in the pro shop this summer.

The third edition of GBD (August/September issue) goes to press on 10th August. Contact the team with your industry stories. If you would like to subscribe to GBD find out more at www.golfbusinessdevelopment.com .
