‘FineGolf’ Goes Ad-Free

2.41pm 1st February 2023 - Media

FineGolf has changed its funding model from advertising to a £10 annual subscription.

FineGolf is an in-depth website, that uniquely within the golf media, promotes the traditional values of what is called the “running game of golf” created with conservation greenkeeping.

www.finegolf.co.uk was launched fourteen years ago by Lorne Smith as a ‘labour of love’ alongside his gradual retirement from business. Today it has grown with a newsletter now subscribed to by over 9,000 golfers (some 20% overseas).

FineGolf was previously funded through advertising of greenkeeping products by Baroness, Johnsons Seeds, Barenbrug, Symbio, Aquatrols, Campey and others.

In order that the editorial comment cannot be criticised for any commercial bias, it has moved to be now funded by readers’ subscription of just £10 yearly.

Golf is all about enjoyment and FineGolf  discusses golf policy as well as reviewing the finest 200 running-golf courses in GB&I, all of which Lorne has played. He rates them on the ‘Joy-to-be-alive’  FineGolf feeling they give.

FineGolf believes that ‘golf’ must embrace the ‘vision’ that wider society wants to see a conservation reduction in greenkeeping inputs of water, fertiliser and pesticides. The best way is to encourage ‘fine perennial grasses’.

Mutual respect between golfers and Greenkeepers is promoted by FineGolf. It stresses the recognition that the dichotomy between fine and weed grasses, and running and target golf, has always been the fundamental issue at the root of golfers’ enjoyment.
