Boom Media relaunches ‘Going for Golf’

‘Going for Golf‘ has been published for twelve years and is the only golf travel magazine distributed to golfers through golf clubs across Britain. 30,000 copies of the magazine are distributed to 1,070 golf clubs across Britain giving an estimated readership of 200,000 golfers.

“In January 2009, Boom Media acquired the Going for Golf magazine and plans to use the magazine as a platform to become Britain’s leading golf travel media company,” says Managing Director, Sean Grant. “We re-launched the magazine in June with fantastic new design throughout and many new features. The response from readers and advertisers has been tremendous.”

The majority of the magazine is made up of regional features of golf courses from around the world.

“We focus on destinations that are popular with British golfers including Scotland, Ireland, England, Wales, France, Spain, Portugal, Turkey and USA,” continued Sean. “A regional feature will typically cover three or four venues and be published over four or five pages while a resort feature would cover one resort only over three pages.”

The following new sections have been added:
• Golf travel news – news about new courses, hotels, flights etc.
• Favourite courses – a feature on PGA professionals and celebrities and their favourite courses starting with Ian Poulter and Andrew Strauss in the Summer issue. We are also asking our readers to tell us about their favourite courses so that we can publish the Going for Golf readers’ most popular courses.
• Reader offers – we have negotiated a number of special golf packages for our readers.
• Specials – several golf travel related specials including gps and rangefinders, golf travel bags, golf travel insurance etc

“In September 2009 we are launching the Going for Golf website,” said Sean. “The website will include a digital version of the magazine, reader offers, favourite courses listing and opportunity for readers to submit their favourites. While we are building the traffic to the site our magazine advertisers will be given promotion on the website free of charge.”

Under the previous management Going for Golf was focused on attracting classified advertising from British golf clubs. Boom Media is targeting golf resorts and tour operators and counts St Mellion, the Belfry, Killarney, Marriott St Pierre, Penha Longa and La Manga among its clients.
