Troon Golf to manage Princes Golf Club

8.30am 18th August 2009 - Management Topics

Troon Golf®, the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing is pleased to announce Princes Golf Club as the newest member to its portfolio of managed courses.

Situated on the south coast of England in the village of Sandwich, Princes Golf Club is one of the most recognized names on the golf course circuit in Europe. The established links course hosted the Open Championship in 1932 and ever since has continued to welcome some of Europe’s leading golf events.

The newly lengthened Championship course will also host final Open Qualifying in 2011 when the Open returns to neighbouring venue Royal St. Georges. One of the most treasured links courses, steeped in history and traditions of the game, the golf course has long been considered one of the finest of its kind.

Following the devastation of the course during World War II, Sir Guy Campbell and John Morrison were commissioned to restore Princes Golf Club. Amazingly 17 of the original greens were saved and a new 27 hole facility was created. Featuring three loops of nine; The Shore, Dunes and Himalayas, the course is as classic a links course as you will find. Naturally sculpted from the Kent links land, deep bunkers, undulating fairways and tricky greens all combine to make Princes one of the most complete and true tests of golf anywhere in the world.

Troon Golf has been working with a wealth of championship courses in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and America for many years, and has developed an in depth understanding of the qualities required to present a world-class championship venue as well as the intricacies of links golf.

“Princes Golf Club is one of the most traditional and esteemed golf clubs in England whose impressive history is hard to surpass. We are thrilled to be working with such an established name in golf and look forward to forging strong partnerships with the team there,” commented Bruce Glasco, Troon Golf’s managing director, Europe, Middle East & Africa.

Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, Troon Golf EMEA is committed to developing Troon Golf’s presence in Europe, Middle East and Africa. This rapidly expanding division now oversees operations at 39 courses in 14 countries including Dubai, Portugal, Spain and England with further expansion planned across all regions.
