Top marks for CMAE’s first online workshop

3.30pm 26th August 2020 - Management Topics

The CMAE successfully held their first online workshop entitled “How to Manage & Lead your Club out of the post Covid-19 Recession” on 11th and 12th August.

The workshop is the first of several online educational sessions planned to be delivered by CMAE in 2020 with the aim of equipping managers with the tools to provide a practical response to the demands created on the Club by Covid-19.

The workshop, which was supported by The R&A, took place over two days online via Zoom and was facilitated by Director of Education Torbjorn Johansson. The content was built around 5 core modules with an expert presenting team specifically selected for their knowledge in each field – Leadership by John Bull, Strategy and Communication by Bill Sanderson, Finance by Debra Adams and People skills by Darshan Singh.

The workshop was extremely well received by the delegates who attended and all praised the seamless organisation, technology and relevant content over the two days.

“We prepared well for the event and it really paid off. Seeing the scores and feedback made us decide to do a second event already now in September and this will be a part of the CMAE Portfolio going forward, says Director of Education Torbjörn “Toby” Johansson”.

Gabrielle Boase CMDip, Manager at Datchet Water Sailing Club, who was a delegate on the workshop commented “This online workshop was so well structured from content to break out rooms to rest breaks that learning was easy. The presenters were fantastic and the organisation behind the scenes enabled two days of well-planned interactive discussions, debate, coaching and mentoring sessions. I would not hesitate to recommend this course to any manager. It was great to push the pause button and have a look at all the tools available to enable us to do our job and of course to see the amazing network of support we have with our fellow managers.”

Chris Lomas CCM, Secretary at Worplesdon Golf Club who also attended added “It was great to spend some quality time with likeminded individuals. We have all had so many changes and challenges in our organisations, it was extremely helpful to find out how others have been coping, and what they are looking to in the future. Add to that four great contributors, educating, guiding and focussing the conversation, it proved to be a very beneficial 2 days. I had been a little sceptical about giving up the time and also how online workshops might work, but I am happy to say I was proved wrong, thank you to everyone involved.”

The two-day virtual workshop will take place again in September. To express an interest in attending the workshop please email office@cmaeurope.org
