National Youth Panel to Recruit a Dedicated Dozen

8.03am 10th October 2011 - Management Topics - This story was updated on Saturday, October 29th, 2011

The EGP (England Golf Partnership) is looking to recruit 12 young people under 25 (on 1 January of the current year) to join the Youth Panel. Applicants can include those with limited or no experience of golf and all applications should be made by 4 November (see below for details).

Panel members will be tasked with providing the EGP with consultative advice on the views of young people, creating new initiatives and activities to engage young people and assisting the delivery of a number of key regional and national golf events in schools and communities.

The Youth Panel is a body of individuals who are helping to create new ways of encouraging young people into golf, as part of the EGP’s vision to ‘Grow the Game’.

Additionally, Youth Panel members work with EGP staff to recruit more young volunteers in golf. They can influence the development of high quality resources and also build programmes for young people in the sport. The panel also supports and advises on child protection and safeguarding issues in golf.

The current Youth Panel has been operational for four years. All members have received training and a significant number of the original volunteers have now progressed into careers within the golf industry.

Phil Beard, EGP Golf Volunteer Manager, said: “The volunteers on our Youth Panel have contributed to creating a greater understanding of how golf is perceived by young people. While helping the EGP in the formation of development strategy, the panellists are also gaining valuable experience which can help them when they look for work in the future, so it’s a win-win situation.”

Those interested in applying for a place on the Youth Panel or who would like to learn more about volunteering in golf, should go to www.golfvolunteers.org for more information. Applications for a place on the panel can be made online and should be completed by 4 November, 2011.

The national volunteering programme is delivered via the England Golf Partnership’s ‘Whole Sport Plan’ for golf and is an integral part of the England Golf Partnership’s vision to ‘Grow the Game’.
