LED lighting is ensuring a bright future for Golf Management Group Member golf clubs in the UK, a recent survey has shown.

In April 2016 Ideal Lights, one of only a small number of LED lighting suppliers in the UK to be awarded Accredited Supplier Status by The Carbon Trust, announced a partnership to start working with Golf Management Group (GMG) and its Member golf clubs.

And audits have already identified over £150,000 of annual savings on electricity and maintenance among those GMG Member golf clubs who subsequently installed LED lighting after engaging Ideal Lights’ services.

The surveys, which were carried out in summer and autumn 2016, show that participating GMG Member clubs are now paying from 52% to 81% less for their annual electricity usage, which equates to savings ranging from £4,251 and £13,530 per year for single-site GMG Members.

Participating GMG Member golf clubs also reported unanimously that LED lighting had given their clubs significant cosmetic benefits. Every club highlighted that the LED upgrade had significantly improved the look of their clubhouse, and had without exception been warmly received by all of their club members.

“LED lighting from Ideal lights is an exciting proposition for all 500+ GMG Member golf clubs, if these early results are anything to go by” said GMG Director, Scott Partington. “£150,000 worth of savings is clearly just the start, as the majority of GMG Member clubs are still using traditional lighting”.

GMG helps over 500 UK golf clubs to manage their costs in key areas such as Energy, Food & Beverage, Insurance and Waste & Washroom. The time and money saved by the club enables it to improve the golfing and clubhouse experience for its members and other guests.

“As well as saving us thousands on our annual electricity bills, the LED lighting provided by Ideal Lights has made a real improvement to the ambience of our clubhouse for our members” said David Hart, General Manager at The Lambourne Club.

And there is additional icing on the cake for all GMG Members. Since Ideal Lights are Accredited by The Carbon Trust, they can help GMG Members to access a 30% rebate on the total cost of the upgrade from The Green Business Fund – up to a maximum of £10,000 per facility.

With annual savings on electricity usage typically delivering a ROI within two years, the rebate also means that GMG Members will receive a cheque back which equates to 30% of the value of the total project.

Roger Hyder, General Manager at Canterbury Golf Club said: “The financial savings and cosmetic improvements offered by LED lighting already made for a compelling proposal, but Ideal Lights also helped us to secure a 30% rebate on the total project cost from The Green Business Fund. The decision to switch to LED lighting at Canterbury GC really was no-brainer!”

“With the 30% Green Business rebate available, this is the perfect time to take the initiative with your in-club lighting” said GMG’s Scott Partington. “Instead of waiting until your lighting needs replacing through wear and tear, I suggest that you act now, and start making savings sooner.”
