Jerry Kilby has become the latest industry expert to work with Promote Training as an Associate Course Author, launching his first e-learning course, “Effective Governance for Golf Clubs”.

The new course, which takes approximately 10 hours to complete and is studied completely online at the delegates own pace, examines the policies and practices that form an effective governance structure. It represents the first course of its kind in the UK and is aimed at both Managers and committee members of private-member and proprietary golf clubs.

The course explains different golf club ownership and business models, as well as looking at the benefits of Incorporation for not-for-profit golf businesses. It examines the virtues of a Club Governance Handbook and goes through the component parts that make up such a document, each adaptable to any golf club.

The second section of the course looks at committee structures, their duties, roles and responsibilities, as well as the election process and induction of newly appointment committee members. It goes further to explore the relationship a committee should have with members of staff at the club.

Talking of the new course, Jerry says, Implementing an effective, universally-understood governance structure within a golf club is hugely important. It’s really laying the foundations on which the club can grow and prosper. Having working in, and with, golf clubs that don’t have a prescribed governance policy, making changes to any aspect of the business can often feel like pushing water up hill.

Jerry continues, “This is a unique online course for its subject and one that will benefit both Golf Club Managers and committee members alike. Through Promote Training’s knowledge of online learning, and their in-depth understanding of the UK golf market, I’m sure it will prove very popular.”

Jerry has held several senior management roles in the golf industry, including Marketing Manager of the PGA, General Manager of Nad Al Sheba Club, Dubai, Chief Executive Officer of the Club Managers Association of Europe and most recently General Manager of Bramley Golf Club and Woodcote Park Golf Clubs in Surrey.

He has also written numerous articles published in golf trade publications and presented at conferences, workshops and seminars on various aspects of golf club management and for the last seven years, Jerry has been the preferred educator on golf club governance and strategic planning to the Golf Club Managers Association in the UK.

Now in its 5th year, Promote Training has attracted numerous leading golf industry figures to write courses on their areas of specialism. In addition, the co-founders, Matthew Orwin and David Reeves, have contributed their own courses on golf club marketing to an ever-growing prospectus of learning programmes.
