Accountancy Matters Delight Woodbridge Golf Club

11.01am 3rd August 2022 - Management Topics

Accountancy Matters, the outsourcing accounts company specialising in golf clubs, continues to go from strength to strength, with Woodbridge Golf Club in Suffolk the latest club to espouse their services.

The club boasts a 27 hole, heathland golf course that ranks in the top 100 courses in England with both Golf World and National Club Golfer. Founded in 1893, the club is regarded as one of the most prestigious in the county, with a full, vibrant membership base.

Prior to Accountancy Matters involvement, the accounts were managed by an excellent Accountant, but he was approaching retirement and the club were keen for a smooth transition to either a new employee or outsourced agency.

Sean Clark, the Club Secretary, approached Accountancy Matters in mid-2021 with a view to taking over the accounting function from January 2022.

Despite its location near Ipswich in Suffolk, some 140 miles from the Accountancy Matters offices in Hook, Hampshire, the accounting function was seamlessly transitioned over in the space of six weeks. The account is largely managed remotely, with monthly site visits that are more than sufficient.

While many aspects of the accounting processes and procedures were of a high quality, they were dated and modern IT systems, such as cloud-based accounting software, weren’t being utilised. As such, Accountancy Matters set about migrating the system over to Xero, in addition to setting up a digital document storage functionality that largely eradicated the use of paper and streamlined supplier payment processes.

The club use the Intelligent Golf software system for their tills and tee sheets, but it wasn’t being utilised to its full potential. Accountancy Matters, thanks to its close relationship with Intelligent Golf, were able to integrate many of the reporting functionalities with Xero. This afforded a real-time information flow that helps the club manage their business on a day-to-day basis.

Sean Clark, Club Secretary, comments, “The committee and I are delighted with the work Accountancy Matters have done and continue to do for us. Highly efficient and highly professional, they take away what could be a significant headache for the club and allow us to manage the business based on financial evidence, not just gut feeling.”
