Protect your junior section now – boost your club revenue

3.31pm 16th October 2020 - Growing the Game

For golf clubs seeking to get the most benefit out of coaching juniors and families, becoming a Golf Foundation ‘HSBC Golf Roots Centre’ has never been more timely and important, says the national charity.

While adult tee-time bookings increased at many clubs this season during Covid-19, organised play for juniors has been often less straightforward. The Golf Foundation is saying to clubs please support your juniors: work with its team of dedicated young people experts and keep the youngsters coming through the door by offering the best possible coaching to juniors and their families as a respected HSBC Golf Roots Centre.

It has been calculated that working with the Golf Foundation also brings, on average, an increase to club business income of £5,800 per year.

The Golf Foundation’s national network of accredited HSBC Golf Roots Centres present progressive PGA Professionals and Club Managers with the ideal opportunity to increase their coaching and business profiles with a range of great options.

Funding, extra funding, and expert support

Sign up now to be an HSBC Golf Roots Centre and your golf club could receive discretionary funding to create a coaching gateway into local schools and the community, and take part in popular initiatives including GolfSixes League, the Junior Golf Passport, and Girls Golf Rocks (joint project with England Golf). Every step taken by a golf club joining in is supported by one of the Foundation’s seven Regional Development Officers (in England) who are expert in this work.

Up-and-coming extra benefits over the next six months include access to additional discretionary grants to help golf clubs which are HSBC Golf Roots Centres to engage with local secondary schools and schools for children with special educational needs.

The Foundation team is also offering additional resources in that time to help clubs host fun team competitions for juniors (GolfSixes League ‘Intra’) and to keep juniors enthused over the winter months (including 50-plus great ideas in our ‘Box of Tricks’). Successful business case for juniors & families

For its new HSBC Golf Roots Centres the Golf Foundation offers:

Martin Crowder, Golf Foundation Head of Development, said: “This may not be the easiest time for golf clubs, but for any club which wants to reach out to their community and create new junior members – who in turn can attract more family customers – this is now the very best time to ensure that the year ahead can be a successful one for your golf club. We are also saying now, don’t let your work with juniors fall away. Work with us and we can all do the right thing to protect the future of the game in a responsible way.”

Life changing opportunities

The Golf Foundation is a charity that creates life changing opportunities for young people using the power of golf.

HSBC Golf Roots Centres are at the heart of the charity’s aim to enable more young people to progress from playing golf in local schools (the Foundation works with 3,200-plus schools) to joining a local golf club; helping them to learn valuable life skills which they can use in their wider lives. With the mental and physical wellbeing of young people in such focus at this difficult time for the nation, the Foundation team believes that playing golf on a regular basis can help youngsters to deal with the current challenges posed by Covid-19 restrictions.

Golf clubs must have in place up-to-date Safeguarding procedures to become an HSBC Golf Roots Centre.
