Scotland’s most famous club manufacturer John Letters has further demonstrated its commitment to increasing golf participation after announcing the launch of their fifth John Letters Golf Academy.

The new site, situated just five minutes from the home of the 2014 Open Championship, Royal Liverpool Golf Club, at Moreton Hills Golf Centre on The Wirral, boasts a 27-bay floodlit driving range, putting green, short game area and practise hole.

As with the other John Letters academies at Huddersfield, Solihull, Walsall and Cambridge, the new Wirral site aims to offer world-class tuition to golfers of all ages and abilities, from beginner to single-figure handicapper – and all at affordable prices.

Tony Davies, Wirral academy head teaching professional, said: “I believe there is massive potential to grow the game of golf on The Wirral, and with the backing of John Letters, I truly feel we can increase golf participation in the area.

“The John Letters Academy on The Wirral will offer the friendliest, most professional teaching experience anywhere in the region, in the finest facilities, and with the best quality of tuition.

“Both John Letters as a brand, and myself as a teaching pro, believe it is important for golf to be inclusive and accessible, so we’re particularly keen to drive participation among junior golfers, ladies golfers and complete beginners.

“We want to grow golf in the area and I’m confident we will do that.”

Site manager Steve Pither added: “The existing facilities at Moreton Hills Golf Centre were the only ones in the area, so there is massive scope for this project.

“John Letters are committing to invest in the site to improve all facilities – from the mats and balls, to the short game area and full range refurbishment – and there is also the potential to re-open the 6-hole course which was previously open on the site.

“Moreton Hills is a site of huge potential and a great addition to the John Letters stable of academies around the country.”

In line with other academies, the new Wirral site will work closely with the Chris Gill Golf Foundation – a golf charity set up by John Andrew, chairman of Direct Golf UK and founder of the John Letters Golf Academies, to commemorate the life of Gill, who passed away in 2009.

The foundation aims to carry on the work of Gill, a pro who devoted much of his working life to teaching golf to children, and the Wirral site – which, ironically, was once owned by Gill himself – will continue that legacy.
