Chestfield Golf Club’s Members are reporting a significant improvement in their course’s playing conditions following ongoing guidance by leading agronomy consultancy Greg Evans Golf Course Solutions (GEGCS).
GEGCS’s journey with Chestfield Golf Club dates back to 2020, after a comprehensive agronomy visit, analysing all playing surfaces to provide a strategic roadmap for future enhancements.
The meticulous analysis laid the foundation for a series of improvements that would unfold over the following years.
In 2021, General Manager Richard Leeves recognized the impact of GEGCS’s expertise and commissioned them further for their Advisory Service.
The Advisory Service, an auditing and recommendation program, saw Greg Evans providing on-site appraisals during each monthly visit. These were backed by Action Plan Reports, outlining progress since the previous visit and setting goals for the upcoming one — a continuous improvement process that evolved throughout 2022 and 2023.
GEGCS’s visits became a cornerstone of the club’s strategy, with a focus on appraising playing surfaces and collaborating closely with Course Manager Gavin Mason who was appointed in December 2021 to implement optimal working practices.
“The Advisory Service is not just a report; it’s a hands-on approach to achieving excellence in playing conditions. Greg’s insights and collaboration with our team have been instrumental in maintaining the right direction for the club,” commented Richard Leeves.
In 2023, GEGCS and the Club adjusted the frequency of the visits to six per year, aligning their efforts with the development of a Maintenance Plan in collaboration with Gavin.
This approach ensured sustained progress while allowing the team to implement and refine GEGCS’s recommendations effectively.
“Working with Greg has been a great asset, it is really reassuring to be able to collaborate ideas and come up with the best plan of action for Chestfield golf club. His support and advice when helping to choose new machinery for our fleet has been invaluable,” commented Gavin Mason.
As a result, the transformation of the Club’s playing surfaces has garnered exceptional member feedback.
Chestfield Golf Club have faced several challenges during this period, including managing Fusarium, enhancing green performance, reducing the height of cut on the approaches, and most recently an in-house bunker project.
As the partnership continues into 2024 with a Maintenance Plan firmly in place, Chestfield Golf Club looks forward to building on the success achieved under GEGCS’s guidance.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the journey with Chestfield Golf Club. Witnessing the positive changes in their playing surfaces and the dedication of their team has been immensely rewarding,” said Greg Evans, Founder of Greg Evans Golf Course Solutions.
