London Golf Show tees up partnership with Prostate Cancer UK

3.27pm 17th October 2014 - Exhibitions & Conferences

PCUK_Small_logo_whiteBG_RGBThe London Golf Show celebrates its 10th annual show in November – and Prostate Cancer UK will be the official charity partner for the event.

For the first time, the charity will be affiliated with the iconic golf event, which takes place in Bluewater, Kent from 14th-16th November when golfers will descend on Glow inside the renowned retail venue, located just 20 miles outside the heart of the capital.

The London Golf Show is designed to provide a truly interactive experience for golfers of all ages with informed expert advice, free PGA tuition, a massive indoor Driving Range, custom fitting, club testing and the latest golf gadgets, and is supported by some of the biggest and best household names in golf.

Prostate Cancer UK has a powerful presence at a multitude of golf clubs up and down the country with many captains picking them as annual charities and raising money and awareness. The charity will have a strong presence at the event, encouraging golfers to swing by an innovative stand which will include a ‘virtual hole-in-one’ simulator.

There will also be an auction for some exclusive signed merchandise with visitors able to test their knowledge of the disease by taking the interactive Men United test.

One man dies every hour from prostate cancer, the equivalent to four men during the average game of golf, and there will be qualified volunteers on hand to discuss their experiences, as well as information on the continued fight against the deadly disease. As well as that there will be many more surprises in store across the weekend.

Prostate Cancer UK’s Director of Fundraising, Mark Bishop said: “Our presence across sport continues to grow and we’re really excited about teeing up for this new partnership with the London Golf Show.

They say golf is the perfect way to ruin a good walk, but it’s a great fit for us at Prostate Cancer UK. From tee to green it offers men that opportunity to talk openly and frankly outside the shackles of every day life.

“Through the stellar work from club captains across the UK our message is spreading and to be able to get our message across to the 12,000 men attending Bluewater across the weekend in a fun and innovative way is a fantastic opportunity.”

Managing Director of The Golf Show, Damian Benstead, said: “I am delighted to support Prostate Cancer UK. The majority of our visitors are men over 40 and we hope that those attending take note of a disease that affects 250,000 men in the UK every year.

There will be some really fun initiatives at the show, and we hope to raise the profile of Prostate Cancer UK amongst golfers, help increase awareness of the disease, and of course raise a bit of money to help the cause.”

The doors open on Friday, November 14th from 10am to 6.30pm, the same day the centre hosts its Christmas Lights ceremony. Opening hours are 10am to 6pm on Saturday, while the show runs from 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
