R&A partners with energy supply company Aggreko

9.14am 17th July 2024 - Environment & Sustainability

Event energy supply company Aggreko has become an official supplier to The Open and R&A Amateur Championships played in Great Britain & Ireland.

The new partnership will see Aggreko become an Official Temporary Energy Transition Supplier, playing a pivotal role in supporting The R&A’s sustainability commitments to staging professional and amateur championships by reducing carbon emissions.

Aggreko’s relationship with The R&A to deliver sustainable championships already includes the use of temporary solar panels and HVO biofuel on-site with the new partnership enhancing opportunities for further innovation in sustainable energy provision.

This will be showcased in the Sustainable Golf Hub, which will be exhibited to fans attending The 152nd Open at Royal Troon.

Alongside this, Aggreko will be using its latest sustainable technology to energise the events, including state-of-the-art Stage V generators and collecting and storing energy using solar arrays and battery units, which will be dotted across each event’s footpath.

Neil Armit, Chief Commercial Officer at The R&A, said, “We have held a long-standing relationship with Aggreko as an energy supplier at our professional and amateur championships, but they will now play a more strategic role in supporting our commitments to staging sustainable golf championships and reducing our carbon footprint as an official supplier. We look forward to continuing to work alongside Aggreko in the coming years.”

Jono Rose, General Manager – Aggreko Event Services, said, “Aggreko is continuing to expand in the events landscape and our relationship with The R&A shows this. The R&A will be showcasing its use of sustainable energy with the Sustainable Golf Hub at The 152nd Open and we can’t wait to see how we can introduce these clean energy solutions at future golfing events.”
