World’s Greatest Golf Holes arrive in Manchester!

Championship Miniature Golf (CMG) – the ultimate outdoor putting experience inspired by the world’s greatest golf holes – has arrived at the Playgolf Golf Academy in Manchester.

It is the latest innovation in miniature golf entertainment and is specifically designed to complement the golf industry.

This concept is far from being ‘crazy’ or ‘adventure-style’. It is much more sophisticated than that – each hole is a cleverly designed, miniature version of a world famous golf hole.

Nick Ashfield, CMG’s creator, explains his company’s design philosophy, “We wanted to take miniature golf in a different direction to existing crazy golf and the elaborately themed adventure golf style courses. We wished to create an experience much more relevant and realistic to the game of golf and one that would appeal just as much to the keen golfer as well as the family audience.

“In order to achieve this, we set out to try to recreate the challenge, excitement, fun and competition of the real game of golf. We believe we have achieved that – and the early feedback from Playgolf’s visitors is proof.”

The idea behind the concept stems from Nick’s own passion for golf and one of his company mission statements is to help grow the game of golf at grass roots level.

“Miniature golf has an important part to play in introducing a new audience to golf – after all, it is the most accessible form of golf there is. However, first impressions count, and if that is of a poorly conceived, poorly constructed miniature golf course, a child’s initial impression of golf wont be a positive one. We believe that our concept, played in a fun, challenging and competitive environment, is much more likely to inspire the next generation into taking that next step into golf.”

To complete the perfect synergy of miniature golf course to golf practice facility, CMG have attached an innovative, educational spin to its courses. Bespoke tee signage on each hole illustrate the basic definitions and etiquette of the real game, thus giving the novice valuable golfing insight.

Ben Trappe, one of Playgolf’s four PGA teaching professionals loves this feature of the course. “We run beginners groups and the new miniature golf course has been brilliant in communicating some of the rules and etiquette of the game to them in a fun, exciting environment,” he said.

Craig Whitfield, general manager at Playgolf Manchester is delighted with the centre’s latest golfing attraction and says, “Playgolf Manchester now really does offer something for everyone and we have become a major player in that ‘special occasion’ market, as well as enhancing our existing corporate and birthday offering.

“What makes the CMG concept work so well here, as opposed to other miniature golf companies we looked at, is its ability to appeal to the golfer as well as the family audience. We have found that our existing range customers are adding a round of Championship Miniature Golf to their visit, or are revisiting later in the week usually accompanied by friends or family. So the course is not just reliant on peak weekend and holiday periods when families visit.”
