On Saturday 10 September 2011, Windmill Golf Academy in Bristol held a Help for Heroes Charity Day to launch their brand new Southwest Greens Synthetic Golf Green.

Steve Scott-Bowen, Director of Golf at Windmill Golf Academy, has worked closely with Warren Bailey, Managing Director of Southwest Greens UK, to produce a state of the art floodlit 800 m2 synthetic green with 12 pin positions, and various chipping pods to facilitate every shot around a green.

The Windmill Golf Academy was established in 2010. Converting arable farmland into a top specification golf academy, starting with the 20 bay driving range. The next phrase saw the launch of the Southwest Greens short game practice facilities, supported by three full time resident PGA coaching Pros. A full length 12 hole golf course will follow in the Spring of 2013.

The Southwest Green short game practice facility by Nicklaus Design has incorporated undulations, curves and flats only replicated on the finest natural grass golf courses.  The construction incorporating over 1200 tonnes of materials replicates the ball reaction in terms of reception, roll and bounce, providing a long term and cost effective maintenance facility enabling golfers to improve on their short game without the worry of divot repairs, dark evenings or diverse weather conditions.

This facility is open to the public and will be used by County Squads and golfers of all ability levels, especially in the winter months when real grass is not an option.

Just before cutting the ribbon  Steve Scott-Bowen, Director of Golf at The Windmill Academy said a few words. “With our already fantastic facilities we are delighted to launch our new innovative green, the largest of its kind in the UK and we are proud to have had the pleasure of working with what we believe are the leading synthetic greens company in the world, Southwest Greens.”

Warren Bailey MD of Southwest Greens said: “It has been a fantastic experience to have worked with the team at Windmill and provide them with their vision of this superb pro-system designed putting and chipping green, which will be used as a showcase for our product”
