UK-Chinese partnership develops golf in China

12.02am 20th June 2001 - Course Development

The recent formation of St Andrews International Golf Developments, a joint UK-Chinese co-operation, has been strengthened further by the addition of Swan Golf Designs to the team. The objective is the advancement of golf and golf development in the People’s Republic of China.

Howard Swan, a past president of the British Institute of Golf Course Architects, will work with Julia Min and George Manson of Elmwood College and St Andrews IGD, on new projects in China and will also teach students in China.

St Andrews IGD has announced its first project in Hefei, close to Shanghai, and a second is expected in Kunming where the task will be to develop a public golf course, essentially the first in the Republic, on the site of the former China Expo.

Swan Golf Designs will handle the golf course architecture on both projects and will bring to the venture a new golf course resort, recently contracted at Xinghai, in the north west of China.
