8.45am 21st October 1999 - Course Development

Colin Montgomerie and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide have teamed up to open a series of golf academies. The first will open in April 2000 and will be known as The Colin Montgomerie Links Golf Academy at The Westin Turnberry Hotel.

The facilities will include indoor and outdoor teaching areas with covered driving and teaching bays, a theatre featuring a fully integrated computerised digital video, simulator and swing analyser, an open air driving range with landscaped target area and nine academy practice holes.

“Great things are happening at Turnberry,” said General Manager Ken Millar. “Starwood Hotels & Resorts are going to be investing nearly US$20million giving us golf and leisure facilities second to none. Donald Steel is currently redesigning the Arran Course to incorporate Bains Hill and include even more spectacular links and cliff views.”

Further Starwood/Colin Montgomerie Golf Academy locations will include the luxurious resort of Costa Smeralda in Sardinia and The Westin Carton House in Dublin, expected to open in January 2002.
