The Wisley, Surrey, has been awarded Refurbishment of the Year at the 2009 Club Awards following a £120k renovation of its bar and restaurant. The category was hotly contested by a host of sports and social clubs including The Berkshire Golf Club, The Belfry, Rolls Royce Club and The BBC Club.
The Club Awards are held every year and celebrate achievements within the club industry. This year the ceremony was hosted by the BBC’s Clare Balding at The Palace Hotel, Manchester and saw a wealth of finalists from across the country enjoying the evening’s entertainment and presentations.
The judging panel of industry experts commented on the The Wisley’s strong objectives, utilising contemporary design principles and an effective use of budget considering the size of the area refurbished and final quality achieved. They also commended the coordinated nature of the campaign which included the appointment of a new Head Chef, further improvements to the terrace area and the increased margin performance and member satisfaction.
Chief Executive, Wayne Sheffield commented: “As one of the country’s most revered private members clubs, The Wisley is always looking at ways to improve and evolve, setting the standards that others look to follow. The refurbishment was just one of many projects looking to achieve this, and the award has reiterated the positivity of the Membership following its completion”.
